Conservative Party candidate Matthew Barber has been elected as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley in the May 2021 Local Elections.
The next Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley has been announced as Conservative candidate Matthew Barber, receiving 313,148 of the votes cast.
Having listened to residents from across the Thames Valley as part of his campaigning work and over the last four years in his time as the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew has developed a clear plan to be tough on crime ensuring safer communities which includes:
- Strong local policing - more police officers, strengthening neighbourhood policing and focussing on the crimes that matter most to residents
- Fighting serious organised crime - cracking down on the threat from “county-lines” drugs gangs to protect children from abuse and exploitation
- Dealing with cyber crime and fraud - investing in the technology and resources the police need to protect individuals online
- Improving criminal justice - supporting victims of crime, bringing more criminals to justice and reducing reoffending
- Tackling illegal encampments - ensuring a fair but firm response to illegal encampments and reducing the effect on communities
Following the election results, Matthew Barber said: “I am delighted to have been elected as the next Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley. I would also like to offer my thanks to Thames Valley residents for coming out and supporting my campaign, especially with the current COVID-19 restrictions in place.
“I plan to hit the ground running and deliver on my campaign promises.
“I look forward to taking office as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley on Thursday (13 May) and starting work on my key priorities for the region.”
The Police and Crime Commissioner elections took place on Thursday 6 May, and the count in Thames Valley was held on Monday 10 May at the Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury. Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic the elections, which were due to be held in May 2020, were delayed.
