New toilet facilities should help to make Abingdon’s Abbey Meadow significantly more accessible after the Vale of White Horse District Council funded a major refurbishment of the park’s public toilets.
The revamped toilet block, which reopened on 6 March, includes a ‘Space to Change’ facility, which includes a wheelchair accessible toilet and a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and hoist.
The block has been completely refurbished and includes five self-contained unisex toilets and a men’s urinals. There are also baby changing facilities available.
The renovation of the toilets is the final part of the council’s major makeover of Abbey Meadow which also included a revamped play area and the complete rebuilding of the outdoor pool*, which reopened last year.
Cllr Alice Badcock, cabinet member for community services, said: “Abbey Meadow is the most-visited park in the district and now with all the changes we have made to make it more accessible, it can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.”
The splash pad and outdoor swimming pool at Abbey Meadow will be open for the summer from 25 May. For more information on booking and opening times please see the Abbey Meadow pool website
