Vale of White Horse District Council has revealed eye-catching artist impressions of an exciting climbing area proposed for the district’s forthcoming new leisure centre.
Anticipation for the new centre will be building as the council submitted the planning application for the centre proposed for Mably Way, Grove.
In addition to the colourful multi-climbing experience, the centre is set to include a sports hall, 25 metre six lane swimming pool, learner pool, confidence water, health and fitness suite, three studio spaces, cafe and an outdoor floodlit artificial grass pitch plus 250 parking spaces.
Proposals include changes made to the original concept design following feedback from members of the public during the consultation last summer.
Vale of White Horse District Council Leader Matthew Barber said: “I’m sure residents are as excited as we are that the new leisure centre for the Vale is becoming a reality now the planning application has been submitted.
“The Council recognises the need to build new community facilities such as this before the majority of new homes are built in the area, which is why we’re aiming to open the new leisure centre by 2020.”
New homes are expected to be built at sites such as Monks Farm, Crab Hill and Grove Airfield.

The council’s goal is to secure planning permission by summer 2018 with the aim of opening the centre in 2020.
A separate application for a new access road was granted permission in January. Work won’t begin on the access road until the full application for the leisure centre has been granted.
