Better

Today I've written to Secretary of State for Local Government, Sajid Javid MP, renewing the call for a single unitary council for Oxfordshire. The Better Oxfordshire campaign was launched last year and following the announcements that unitary councils are likely to be created in Dorset, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire I have called for Oxfordshire to be next. A strong proposal for improved, more efficient public services has already been backed by Vale of White Horse District Council, Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council.

You can view the letter by clicking the link below. Not only has the Government shown a commitment to a policy of creating unitaries, but the signing of the Oxfordshire Housing & Growth Deal and the collapse of Northamptonshire County Council have all added to the case for a Better Oxfordshire council.

A unitary proposal for a better Oxfordshire

Becoming a single unitary council will transform the way we deliver our services to the people of Oxfordshire for the better. But these are vital services that will impact on everyone. That’s why the changes we make must without fail improve the quality of life for residents, their families and the communities they live in.
