Nearly £110,000 is being invested by the Vale of White Horse District Council to support those who are rough sleepers or are at risk of becoming homeless.
The funding will provide 13 supported beds for the district's most vulnerable residents for the next three years and will include ongoing support to help them get back to a stable life.
The council has stepped in to contribute towards filling the funding gap, following Oxfordshire County Council cutting its housing related support funding by£1.5 million.
Vale of White Horse District Council is working in partnership with other District Councils across Oxfordshire, the Clinical Commissioning Group, Oxfordshire County Council and the City Council to ensure the reduction in beds is managed and local provision for rough sleepers continues. The total investment from all agencies involved is £2,940,000 over 3 years.
Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council Matthew Barber said:
“The Vale of White Horse has stepped into mitigate the impact of these cuts. The funding we are providing will ensure that local people, who are at risk of becoming homeless or are already sleeping rough, get the support they so desperately need.”
