Hundreds of local jobs, education and training opportunities will be available at a pop-up community Job Fair in Abingdon on 26 April – open to everyone to attend.
The free community Job Fair is making its debut in the former Adult Day Centre, in Broad Street from 10am – 2pm.
The event is being organised by award-winning social enterprise and employment charity, Aspire Oxford, in partnership with Sovereign Housing and Jobcentre Plus. The Vale of White Horse District Council are supporting the job fair by providing the central location for the event.
The organisers have arranged for more than 30 employers and education & training providers to attend and anticipate the event will pull in over 200 jobseekers.
Shay Abdul, Employment & Training Officer from Sovereign, said: “We’re committed to supporting residents – particularly those living in the South Abingdon area - with employment and training opportunities, so we’re very excited to bring the community Job Fair to Abingdon. It will give people the opportunity to meet lots of employers and training providers with hundreds of live vacancies, find out more about up and coming training courses and jobs in the local area, and get advice about how to prepare for employment – and it’s free and in a convenient, community location too.”
Cllr. Michael Murray, Cabinet member for development and regeneration at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Abingdon and the surrounding area is an excellent location for people looking for wide range of career opportunities, particularly thanks to the science, space and high-tech industries in the nearby Science Vale area.
"We fully support the community Job Fair to provide residents the chance to explore what is on offer with potential employers and training providers in a friendly and informal way. The event links in to our own business strategy action plan that supports local business to attract and retain skilled staff.”
The full range of up to 34 exhibitors is still being confirmed but will include established employers such as Thames Travel, Savers and Oxford University colleges, as well as a diverse range of large and small employers and education & training providers who want to recruit more people from the Abingdon area into their workforce & training courses and have current live vacancies.
There is no need to book as entry is free.
If employers would like to find out more about promoting their vacancies at the event, they are also encouraged to get in touch.
