Vale of White Horse District Council has submitted a planning application for a new 3G artificial turf pitch to be located next to Faringdon Leisure Centre.
The scheme, which is a joint project between the district council and leisure centre contractors GLL, will cost £750,000. If planning permission is granted then it’s expected that work should start on the new pitch in early 2018 and be complete by the summer.
The proposal also includes more than 40 additional parking spaces at the Fernham Road site to help meet the increased demand.
Cllr Charlotte Dickson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Vale of White Horse District Council said: "Currently residents in the Faringdon area have to travel more than ten miles if they wish to use an artificial pitch so a new 3G facility in the town would benefit many people across the local community. This investment clearly highlights our commitment to ensuring that leisure facilities are available for all our residents and provides a real boost to what we already have on offer at Faringdon Leisure Centre."
Ben Whaymand, Partnership Manager at GLL said: “This investment marks another significant step in our partnership with the council to continually improve the leisure centres we operate on their behalf. For the public to have 3G pitch in addition to the offer already at the leisure centre is a great opportunity to take part in more sporting activities in the local Farindgon area.”
