Groups in the Vale of White Horse looking to hold an event in the run up to Christmas (and beyond) are being encouraged to apply for grant funding from the district council.

Vale of White Horse District Council has more than £6,000 available to support festivals and events organised by non-profit community organisations.

With many groups looking to hold seasonal events it is now the perfect opportunity to secure some additional funding. Community organisations looking to hold community event in 2019 are also welcome to apply.

Grants of up to £1,000 per application are available – they can cover up to 75 per cent of the total costs of staging an event that is open to the local community with at least 100 people due to attend.

Since launching the grants scheme in 2012 the council has helped support events such as the Abingdon Cycle Festival and ATOM (Oxfordshire Science Festival) also literary and opera festivals, flower festivals and village fetes. This year the council is already helping to fund a remembrance memorial concert and a Christmas Dickensian evening.

Cllr Alice Badcock, Cabinet Member for Grants at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Putting on an event such as a concert, a fair or festival is a way of bringing together the community and helping to attract more visitors.  With many communities planning their Christmas events this is a great opportunity for some additional funding.  Alternatively, if you are planning an event that will take place in 2019 you can also apply now and hopefully have the funding in place well ahead of schedule.”
