Letter to the Uxbridge Gazette
Sir, Whilst talking to members of the public in Yiewsley ward about the issues that matter to them in the run up to the Council Elections, one thing has been repeated to me on a number of occasions. This is the matter of their Labour councillor Paul Harmsworth, and their dissatisfaction with what he has, or rather has not done for the area during his term in office. He is seen by local people, to be part of the Labour group that has time and again blocked Conservative proposals intended to improve local facilities and the quality of life of residents. This is not simply a matter of party politics, it is a matter of track record. The Conservative group have succeeded in so many areas over the past four years. However, these successes would have been much greater if the Conservative minority administration was not held back by the petty squabbling on the Labour benches. Paul Harmsworth is a prime example of this. He has shown no commitment to the people of Yiewsley, and I would not be surprised if we see him moving to another ward for the next election, while my colleague Cllr. Danny Banks (Con) holds firm to fight for the people of Yiewsley. I hope to be joining him on Hillingdon Council, and along with Cllr Robert Benson, we will form an effective team, as part of a Conservative controlled council that will be able to make real and meaningful improvement to the borough.
