The Vale of White Horse District Council has finally seen sense and announced that the General Election count will take place on Thursday night, rather than Friday morning. It was never going to be an issue which concerned the average man in the street, but for those of us deeply involved in politics there is a distinct unease about leaving the ballot papers uncounted until the next day. The supposed 'risks' of counting overnight are minimal, and if people have bothered to go to the polling station to cast their ballot, I'm glad that we will make the effort to count them as soon as possible. It took an Act of Parliament to get there, but it seems that the will of Parliament will now allow us to determine the will of the people a few hours earlier.
